GLEA 2026, Freiburg, July 16–17

We are pleased to invite submissions for the 23rd annual conference of the German Law and Economics Association (GLEA), taking place on July 16–17, 2026 at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law in Freiburg, Germany.

The deadline for submissions has been extended to April 8. GLEA 2026 welcomes papers from all areas and methodological approaches in law and economics. We especially encourage submissions from legal scholars, criminologists, and early-career researchers at the PhD level, and we also invite panel proposals on law-and-policy topics.

The conference will also feature keynote presentations, including by Eberhard Feess. A special highlight of this year’s program is the pre-conference workshop on “LLMs for Large-Scale Data Collection” on July 15, 2026, taught by Felix Ringe.

We look forward to bringing together scholars across disciplines for lively discussion at the intersection of law and economics. Please see the Call for Papers (PDF version) for submission details and further information.

Robert Cooter, 1945–2025

The German Law and Economics Association mourns the passing of Robert Cooter, one of the most distinguished, inventive, and versatile scholars in our field. He was also instrumental in fostering the development of law and economics in Germany. In the early years of our Association, Robert Cooter offered invaluable encouragement and guidance, for which we remain deeply grateful. He will be remembered as a warm, generous, and supportive colleague and friend.

A memorial note has been published by the Institute of Law and Economics at the University of Hamburg and can be found here.

Please see the Call for Papers and the conference website.

This was GLEA 2024

On July 17–19, GLEA 2024 featured many thought-provoking contributions in law and economics, both theoretical and empirical, as well as a special workshop in experimental law and economics. See the conference program. We would like to thank the University of Hamburg and the local organizers—especially Roee Sarel—for making our annual meeting the stimulating and pleasant event it has been.
